Grilled Steak Pita

My kids love anything between two slices of bread and these grilled steak pitas were a big hit! I loved that they were quick and easy to make. Life has been pretty busy lately with work, I started another side gig, sports and my husband traveling for work everyday for the last 2+ months. Needless to say…..dinners have been pretty quick and nothing fancy. Can you tell from the lack of posts lately? I’m hoping things will slow down a little and we can have dinners where we sit at the table and talk instead of running out the door eating.

With busy nights, I turn to our grill most of the time. It’s quick and I don’t have to worry about major clean up later. I loved gyros and this recipe reminded them of them, just taken up a notch with the grilled steak.

Grilled Steak Pita | Join Us, Pull up a Chair

Yogurt Sauce
1 cup plain Green yogurt
1 small seedless cucumber, peeled and diced
2 Tbsp honey
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 Tbsp lemon juice
2 Tbsp fresh dill
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp fresh ground pepper
pinch crushed red pepper flakes

1 1/2 lb sirloin steak
6-8 whole wheat pita pockets
4 oz roasted red pepper hummus
1 pint grape tomatoes, cut in half
1 small seedless cucumber, diced
4 oz crumbled feta cheese

In a small bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the yogurt sauce. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Season both sides of the steak with salt and fresh ground pepper. Grill until it is cooked to your liking – we like steak on the rare side, so it was only a couple of minutes on each side. Remove and let rest to allow the juices to distribute. When ready to assemble, slice the steak into thin slices.

On the pita, spread a layer of the hummus. Add in the sliced steak, tomatoes, diced cucumber and feta. Drizzle the yogurt sauce on top and enjoy immediately!
