I felt like a kid on Christmas morning waiting for my first shipment for wine from Direct Cellars. I impatiently stalked my UPS delivery driver and was worried when he didn’t make his normal morning deliveries. When he pulled up outside my house, I jumped out the door to greet him – I’m sure he was thinking “why is this lady running out to greet me?” – but after I said I was waiting for my first wine shipment, he totally understood!
I’m pretty consistent with my wine drinking – only white and I rarely experiment with new brands. I’m sure you can relate to this story – this is how I would usually buy my wine: I got to the Wine & Spirits store (usually with 1 or both my kids). I explain to them that they are not to touch ANYTHING!!!! I quickly head to the white wine section, grab a bottle or two of something I’ve tried before, reminding my kids not to touch anything. Answer 500 questions about what everything is, what it tastes like and again….remind them not to touch the bottles. Needless to say, it’s not a very enjoyable experience and I never get an opportunity to see what is out there.
When I found about Direct Cellars, it was something I had to give a try…. I mean who doesn’t love wine delivered right to your front door?!?! A couple more things I liked about the club:
- You get tasting notes with each shipment. Now I know what to pair my wine!
- If you don’t like a wine, you can contact the company and they’ll send you out a replacement.
- If I refer three friends into the club in a month, my next order is FREE (plus S&H). Can’t beat that!!
- Plus, they support 2000 small, artisan wineries around the world. I love supporting small businesses!!
When I joined, I decided on the Wine Lovers Mixed box – 2 bottles of white and 2 bottles of red. You can also get all white or all red – either 2 or 4 bottles. My first shipment included the following wines:
- 2014 12th Blend Chenin Blanc Columbia Valley from Eye of the Needle in Woodinville, WA
- 2016 Rosso Salento IGT from Signum Gemini from Italy
I have sampled the 12th blend and it’s amazing! It’s refreshing, clean and has hints of fruit….the perfect summer wine! I’m waiting for a special occasion to open the Rosso Salento, but a few of my friends have told me it’s delicious. I can’t wait to try it!
Each month, I’ll be sharing more about my wine subscriptions over on my Facebook page and coming live for unboxing! Be sure to check it out.
