Chocolate Cherry Crisp

It’s cherry season and there are so many delicious recipes I want to make. The first one was this chocolate cherry crisp – chocolate chips melted with fresh cherries and topped with a oat crisp on top. My family loved it and it was a simple and easy recipe to make! They’re already asking me to make another one this week.

2 lbs pitted sweet cherries

1 Tbsp sugar

1/2 cup old fashioned oats

1/4 cup flour

3 Tbsp brown sugar

2 Tbsp butter

1/2 cup chocolate chips

1/4 cup chopped pecans

In a bowl, combine the cherries and tablespoon of sugar. Mix together and allow to sit 5 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray a deep dish pie pan or cast iron skillet with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the cherries into the pan and evenly spread.

In a medium bowl, combine the oats, flour and brown sugar. Cut in the butter with a pastry knife until small crumbles form. Mix in the chocolate chips and pecans. Spread the crumble over the top of the cherries. Bake for 25 minutes until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
