Chocolate Cherry Almond Braid

This year’s #Choctoberfest is quickly coming to a close, but I couldn’t go without sharing this delicious braid. We may have eaten it all in one night…whoops! Flaky crust wrapped around a chocolate and cherry filling. It was really delicious, quick to make and will impress your family and friends.

1 sheet frozen puff pastry
1 full + 1/2 chocolate bar (approximately 4.5 oz)
1/4 cup chopped cherries, frozen and thawed
1 egg
2 Tbsp shaved almonds

Thaw one sheet of puff pastry according to package instructions. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

Once the dough has thawed, unroll it on the baking sheet. Place the full chocolate bar and half of the bar in the center piece of the dough. Cut 6 to 8 strips along the remaining two pieces of dough. You’ll be folding this over into a braid. Place the chopped cherries over the chocolate. Fold the top and bottom pieces up over the chocolate. The take the strips and cross them over to each to make a braid.

Mix the egg with a splash of cold water to make an egg wash. Brush it over top of the braid. Bake for 15 minutes or until the dough looks cooked but not golden brown. Remove from the oven and top with shaved almonds. Return to the oven until the dough is golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before slicing.
