Spicy Nut and Pretzel Mix

I hosted my family for Christmas and we did a variety of appetizers. I wanted something crunchy and spicy and found this recipe for a nut and pretzel mix. I’ve already made two batches and will be making it probably every week for my family. The first batch wasn’t as spicy and only had a little heat. The second batch I was a little more heavy handed with the spice and my daughter really enjoyed this version.

1 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted

1 1/2 Tbsp maple syrup

3 Tbsp packed light brown sugar

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp paprika

1 tsp sea salt

2 cups raw mixed nuts (I used almonds and pecans)

2 cups small pretzels

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the nuts into a layer and bake for 10 minutes, stirring once. While your nuts are roasting, mix together the melted butter, brown sugar, spices and maple syrup in a medium bowl.

Transfer the roasted nuts to the bowl, and mix to combine. Add in the pretzels and season with salt. Stir to evenly coats and then transfer back to the line baking sheet. Spread the mix evenly and bake for 12 to 18 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once cooked, remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. Break apart and store in an airtight container.
